Launch Hispanic Heritage Month at Montgomery College with Nuestros Caminos y Huellas (Our Journeys and Footprints), an immersive arts and community experience exploring migration, identity, family, resilience, and hope. Through visual art, poetry, music, and hands-on activities, participants are invited to reflect on the journeys that shape individuals, families, and communities and the footprints we leave for those who follow.

Curated by local artists Quique Avilés and Samuel Miranda, the experience features interactive art installations, palm-leaf messaging, accordion bookmaking, live poetry, and musical performances by vocalist Luci Murphy and Andean folk musician Carlos Arrien. Participants can move through the experience at their own pace, engage directly with the artists and activities, and connect with the stories and perspectives represented throughout the event.

Presented by the Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee in collaboration with the Yellow House Collective and sponsored by Montgomery College’s Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging.

Cooking Demo Series: A Taste of Culture: Food, Tradition & Community

Experience Hispanic Heritage Month through the flavors, traditions, and stories that connect food and culture. This interactive cooking demonstration series will highlight dishes and culinary traditions from across Hispanic and Latino communities, exploring how food reflects history, family, place, and cultural identity. Participants will learn about ingredients and preparation techniques, engage with the cooking process, and enjoy a shared tasting experience.

Culture, Community & the Hispanic Experience

Join Montgomery College faculty and staff for a thoughtful conversation exploring how culture shapes our everyday lives, relationships, and sense of community. Panelists will share personal and professional perspectives on Hispanic culture and identity, cultural awareness in practice, and the experiences and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities at MC. The conversation will also consider how we can foster meaningful support, connection, and belonging across our College community.

The program will conclude with an audience Q&A and discussion.

The Culture We Create: Belonging, Community & Inclusive Citizenship

Join Dr. Luis R. Fraga, Professor Emeritus, University of Notre Dame, for the closing program of Montgomery College’s Hispanic Heritage Month. Drawing on his extensive scholarship in Latino politics, education, and civic life, Dr. Fraga will explore how culture shape’s academic identity, strengthens belonging, and contributes to a deeper understanding of inclusive citizenship and community.

The program will conclude with an audience Q&A, providing an opportunity to engage with Dr. Fraga and further explore the connections among culture, education, belonging, and participation in our communities.
