Montgomery College Expands Family-Friendly Study Spaces to Support Student Parents

Building on its commitment to removing barriers and supporting student success, the Montgomery College Student Parent Program has officially launched new Family-Friendly Study Spaces across all four campus locations. Funded through generous donor support, these thoughtfully designed areas provide a welcoming environment for students balancing their academic goals with parenting responsibilities.

The creation of these spaces allows parenting students to remain connected to campus resources and community while caring for their children. Each location features tailored, family-centered amenities including interactive technology, colorful furnishings, activity stations, children's books, and comfortable study areas designed to foster both academic achievement and a strong sense of belonging.

“Access to these spaces provides a meaningful difference for parenting students as they pursue their educational goals, and balance and navigate the full scope of their family commitments," said Janee McFadden, interim senior vice president for student affairs.

Designated Space Locations

Family-Friendly Study Spaces are now available for student use at the following locations:

• Rockville Campus: Academic Annex Building 215
• Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus: Resource Center 243
• Germantown Campus: Humanities and Social Sciences Building Library
• East County Education Center: Library Hallway

Additional room location details and specific access instructions for each campus—including designated areas within the Germantown Campus Library—will be updated once finalized to ensure students can easily identify and utilize these resources.
